Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate to the nation and lay the foundation of key projects of the oil and gas sector in Tamil Nadu this evening through video conferencing.

Mr Modi will dedicate to the nation the Ramanathapuram -Thoothukudi natural gas pipeline and the Gasoline Desulphurisation Unit at Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited, Manali. He will also lay the foundation stone of Cauvery Basin Refinery at Nagapattinam. These projects will bring in substantial socio-economic benefits and will boost the country’s march towards Urja Aatmanirbharta.

Governor of Tamil Nadu Banwarilal Purohit, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Edappadi K Palaniswamy and Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan will be present on the occasion. More from our Chennai correspondent:-

“The 700 crore rupees pipeline project extends to a distance of 143 kilometer and begins at Ennore and passses through – Thiruvallur- Bengaluru- Puducherry- Nagapattinam- Madurai- Tuticorin Natural Gas Pipeline. It will also help utilise gas from ONGC Gas fields and deliver natural gas as feedstock to industries and other commercial customers. The Gasoline Desulphurisation Unit at Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL), Manali has been constructed at a cost of about 500 crore rupees. It will produce low, less than 8 ppm sulphur, environment-friendly gasoline, which will help reduce emission considerably and contribute towards a cleaner environment. The Cauvery Basin Refinery project to be set up at Nagapattinam will have a capacity of 9 million metric tonnes per annum. It will be set up through a Joint Venture of IOCL and CPCL at an estimated cost of 31 thousand 500 crore rupees. It will produce Motor Spirit and Diesel meeting BS-VI specifications, and Polypropylene as a value-added product. Joy, AIR NEWS, Chennai”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the NASSCOM Technology and Leadership Forum (NTLF) this afternoon through video conferencing. The 29th edition of NTLF is being organised from 17th to 19th February. It is the flagship event of the National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM). The theme of this year’s event is ‘Shaping the future towards a better normal’. The event will host 1600 participants from more than 30 countries and more than 30 products will be showcased during the three-days of talks.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that India is playing a central role in global vaccination against COVID-19. He said, at a time when the world needs the vaccine for COVID-19, India is proud to send it all over the globe. The Prime Minister was addressing a programme to mark 75 years of the Shri Ram Chandra Mission through video conferencing. Mr Modi said, the world is looking at health and wellness very seriously especially after COVID-19. He called upon the people to work towards making India a hub for spiritual and wellness tourism.

“India is playing a central role in global vaccination. Our vision for wellness is as much global as it is domestic. The world is looking at health and wellness very seriously, especially after, Covid-19. India has much to offer in this regard. Let us work towards making India a hub for spiritual and wellness tourism. Our Yoga and Ayurveda can contribute to a healthy planet. It is our aim to present these to the world in a language they understand.”

Speaking on India’s focus on wellness, the Prime Minister noted that the Indian idea of wellness goes beyond merely curing a disease and there has been extensive work on preventive health care. Mr Modi pointed out that India’s flagship health care scheme, Ayushman Bharat has more beneficiaries than the population of America and many European nations. He said, it is the world’s largest health care scheme and the prices of medicines and medical equipment have been lowered.

The Prime Minister said, India has undertaken some of the world’s largest public welfare programmes in the last six years and the efforts are aimed at giving the poor a life with dignity. Mr Modi said, the country is following a human centric approach to furthering global good.

“It is a human centric approach. It is based on healthy, balance, wellfare, well being wealth. In the last six years, India has undertaken among the world largest public welfare programme in the world. These efforts are aimed at giving the poor a life of dignity and opportunity.”

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone of Maharaja Suheldev Memorial and development work of Chittaura Lake at Bahraich district in Uttar Pradesh through video conferencing. Mr Modi also inaugurated a medical college in the name of Maharaja Suheldev. The event marked the birth anniversary celebration of Maharaja Suheldev.

Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Modi said, a lot of work is being carried out in Uttar Pradesh to boost tourism including International airport at Ayodhya.

“उत्‍तर प्रदेश तो पर्यटन और तीर्थाटन दोनों के मामले में समृद्ध भी है और इसकी क्षमताएं भी अपार है, चाहे वह भगवान राम का जन्‍म स्‍थान हो या कृष्‍ण का वृन्‍दावन हो, भगवान बुद्ध का सारनाथ हो या काशी विश्‍वनाथ, संत कबीर का मगहर राम या वाराणसी में संत रविदास की जन्‍मस्‍थली का आधुनिकीकरण पूरे प्रदेश में बड़े पैमाने पर काम चल रहा है।”
