Quora: Journey to 300 million monthly users, 8 of 8

Quora is a question and answer platform as its name signifies Qu (Questions) + OR + A (Answers). Questions are asked, answered and organized by its community of users in the form of opinions.

In Apr 2009, Quora was founded by Adam D’Angelo, Facebook’s former CTO and Charlie Cheever, an ex-Facebook employee. They realized that there was a gap in existing question and answer websites in terms of quality and availability. In mid of 2010, the service officially became open to the public and because of D’Angelo’s previous work in Facebook, Quora didn’t have much trouble getting media attention. However, getting lots of publicity didn’t solve the problem of having less content on the platform. So they themselves participated in content fulfillment with other open-Beta program members.

The main difference between Quora and all other question-answer platforms is that it provides high-quality content by maintaining a Google-like ranking algo for answers. Also, there are no restrictions on the types of topics or questions posted.

With this rapid growth, Quora has currently focused all its attention on product development and left monetization for later but we can estimate the worth of Quora which currently has over 300 million monthly visitors.
